Doctors Without Borders headquarters in Barcelona: Spaces that care and connect

The new Doctors Without Borders headquarters in Barcelona is the result of an ambitious renovation project that has transformed an industrial building into a functional, biophilic, and comfortable workplace. Designed to minimize environmental impact and enhance the well-being of its users, the space reflects a strong to commitment to sustainability and human-centered design.

Led by Batlleiroig Arquitectura, the project received the 2020 Premi Catalunya Construcció (Catalunya Construction Prize for Functional Renovation) for its success in converting an obsolete industrial site into a healthy, practical space.

At Grupo Ramón García, we contributed custom carpentry and furniture solutions that bring this transformative vision to life.

A SPACE INFUSED WITH NATURE AND WELL-BEING

Custom solutions for a new way of working

The design centers on a tiered green courtyard that improves cross-ventilation and floods the building with natural light at every level, creating a constant connection to the outdoors. Open workspaces, meeting rooms, lounge areas, and terraces radiate from this central courtyard, fostering interaction and a strong sense of community.

With our solutions, combining functionality, natural materials, and aesthetic precision, we contributed to the building’s unique character:

High-performance wood and glass partitions developed in collaboration with Batlleiroig, ensuring optimal acoustic comfort.
Lacquered and veneered interior doors, including certified fire-rated models.
Wall cladding in lacquered and veneered pine panels.
Wood flooring and stepped seating on the terrace.
Custom furniture for the reception area and shared spaces, including the dining room.

THE HIGHLIGHT

Wood as the focal point of the biophilic terraces

One of the building’s most iconic spaces is the rooftop, which has been transformed into a vibrant space with gardens, lounge areas, and spaces for social interaction, all shaded by adjustable awnings.

Here, our treated wood solutions enhance the sense of comfort and natural warmth, blending respectfully into the urban landscape of the 22@ district. They also help create pleasant microclimates that contribute to reducing the urban heat island effect.

Project Outcome

The result is an open, healthy, and flexible headquarters that reflects the values of Doctors Without Borders.

Thanks to our technical expertise and precision in execution, Grupo Ramón García helped create spaces that support collaborative work and everyday well-being.

Every element, from the partitions to the terrace flooring, has been thoughtfully designed to enhance the building’s value, coherence, and functionality, establishing it as a benchmark in functional rehabilitation.
